My destination is San Cassiano in Alta Badia, a small village situated at 1537 metres, northeast of Bolzano and home to the Relais & Chateaux, Rosa Alpina Spa. This wonderful retreat, run by the Pizzinini family is one of the oldest hotels in the area dating back to 1850. Since its opening, Rosa Alpina has always been central to San Cassiano’s history of mountain sports; rock climbing, skiing and trekking. While maintaining its true character and traditional Alta Badia style, over the years the Rosa Alpina has continuously upgraded and re-decorated the interior of the hotel to meet with top standards for an international clientele.
Today the Rosa Alpina proudly presents over 40 rooms and 12 suites. Each room is individually decorated with elegant simplicity and shades of natural tones, making use of traditional fabrics, such as hand spun linens, and wooden panelling. Comfort and relaxed elegance are the key qualities which awarded the Rosa Alpina the Relais & Chateaux nomination in 2000. Yet, on entering there is much more than initially meets the eye. The Rosa Alpina promises a whole new experience of tranquility, at the heart of the Rosa Alpina Spa is Daniela Steiner. The entire basement area is dedicated to a complete ‘revitalizing’ itinerary. This is the Spa where you can indulge in a series of body treatments and ‘pampering’, recommended to restore both body and mind.
The combination of beautiful places, wonderful scenery and great cuisine is a rare and unique experience. Here it’s possible! Book yourself into Rosa Alpina’s Michelin (two) starred fine dining restaurant St Hubertus which is run by one of the world’s classiest Chefs, Norbert Niederkofler. The St Hubertus cuisine is based on traditional recipes in a contemporary key. Chef Niederkofler uses only fresh local seasonal ingredients.
